A Delicious Sparkle of Tradition: Celebrating the 4th of July with Lovell’s 31

Happy 4th of July from all of us at Lovell’s 31! 🇺🇸

Every year, July 4th invites us to pause and celebrate the vibrant spirit of independence—sunshine on our skin, the sound of laughter in the air, fireworks painting the sky, and tables overflowing with delicious summer fare. It’s a day wrapped in tradition, family memories, and sweet treats that linger long after the last sparkler has fizzled out.

Whether you spend your day waving flags at a hometown parade, jamming to live music at the park, or grilling up something special with the people you love—there’s no wrong way to celebrate freedom and togetherness.

My Favorite 4th: A Taste of Summer Magic

For me, Independence Day always begins with a well-packed picnic basket, ready to go! Inside? Chilled Honey Mustard Chicken Salad tucked in soft Hawaiian buns, crunchy potato chips, juicy grapes, and a fresh green salad. But the real star? My Blueberries and Cream Bread Pudding—a summer twist on a classic favorite. I top it with strawberries, blueberries, sliced bananas, toasted nuts, and a generous swirl of whipped cream. It’s sweet, creamy, cool, and oh-so-patriotic. Trust me, it’s a crowd-pleaser every time.

And while the food is unforgettable, the memories around it are even sweeter.

Some years, I head to North Myrtle Beach, where fireworks erupt from the pier and shimmer across the waves. The ocean breeze, friendly crowds, and music in the distance make it feel like something straight out of a movie. Other times, I stay closer to home in Richmond, perched on a bridge above the James River, watching fireworks rise from Dogwood Dell while sharing a cozy, cool picnic with loved ones. Wherever I go, the glow of the fireworks never fails to take my breath away.

Why Red, White, and Blue?

Of course, you’ll see everyone decked out in red, white, and blue—but do you know what the colors really mean?
❤️ Red for hardiness and valor.
🤍 White for purity and innocence.
💙 Blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

I love bringing those colors into the festivities—from festive tableware to string lights, from noisy party blowers to my own red-white-and-blue shirt. It’s a simple, joyful way to feel connected to the heart of this country—and to each other.

So, How Do You Celebrate?

Do you light sparklers in the backyard? Dance barefoot to classic summer tunes? Or savor something sweet under the stars? Whatever your tradition, we hope it includes laughter, love, and maybe… just maybe… a slice of Lovell’s 31 bread pudding to end your evening on a high note.

From our kitchen to yours—have a safe, happy, and flavor-filled Fourth of July! 🎆🎉🍓
